List o' fics
I'm jumping on the ficlist bandwagon fairly late on, but if you're interested then read on...

(Mostly) in order from oldest to most recent. Read something in here you love? You hate? Are passionately indifferent to? Feel free to comment - doesn't matter how long ago I originally posted it, you'll make me happy that someone's reading. Will always appreciate constructive criticism and tips for improving (no really).

Blanket disclaimer: Someone else owns anything you recognise, I own nothing of any worth - just doing it for fun not profit.

Pirates of the Caribbean (by character/pairing) )

Others - Dracula, Neverwhere, Mythology, Crossovers and Remixes )

Snow!
It's been threatening it for weeks now (we normally get a good snowfall in November, but just had the bitter temperatures, ice and roaring wind this time round. Lucky us!), but we had our first flurry yesterday. It didn't lie (but handily turned the roads to ice which, as I live at the top of a hill, made venturing outside... interesting), but I woke up this morning to find deep snow outside. Huzzah! Now it's festive :)

Went to a Christmas concert last night. The older I get, the more irrationally emotion I find myself getting. Especially at Christmas time. Stick me in a large building, lit by candle light and wheel on some small children singing Christmas carols in little wobbly falsetto voices and I'll be blubbing into my mulled wine before you can say Humbug. I managed to be stoic last night, relying on only a quick eyedab at the end of Oh, come all ye Faithful. Today however, I'm off to see the Nutcracker. Then home to wrap presents, write cards and eat mincepies. I'll probably be in inconsolable hysterics by about 4pm.

Sigh, I love the holidays! :)

Happy world animal day!
I have one of those diaries - it mentions every possible holiday out there. Want to know when the Queen's birthday is in Australia? Have a favourite religious festival? Mother's Day? Father's Day? Best goldfish day? More public holidays than you'd know what to do with? All you have to do is ask.

Most of these I've never heard of, but today is (apparently) World Animal Day. Happy World Animal day world. In celebration the cat has spent most of the day unconscious. Why waste valuable sleeping time in celebrating?

Actually, seems like a sensible plan...

Comment fics and impromptu Norrington fic fest
I forgot to post these before so, for the sake of completeness etc etc

Title: Where's the justice?
Rating: G
Prompt: Mythology (Egyptian Greek), Set Hades, (modern era) bonding through bad reputations

Title: Differences
Rating: G
Prompt: Greek myth, Hades/Persephone, "We're not so different, you and I."

If I can have a moment of irrational prejudice, [info]comment_fic uses delicious.com for their prompts. I cannot stand delicious - 99% of the time it crashes my computer, the other 1% it makes it run slightly slower than glaciers. Back in the days of my elderly laptop it was understandable, now I have a newer, sprightlier laptop I cannot understand this. Grrrr...

In (much, much) happier news, check this thing of beauty out if you haven't seen it already. A Norrington fic fest over at [info]raise_the_dead - squee!

Rec and thanks!
[info]romankate recently called for summer related prompts, as I have a one track mind you'll never guess what I asked for. She filled my request beautifully with a lovely little ficlet with sunburn, parrots, tropical island shennigans, sunburn and hot springs. With added sunburn. Go and read it and smile like an idiot, I did! Thanks [info]romankate!

Title: The Sun, The Water and All the Bloody Parrots (R)
Author: [info]romankate
Prompt: Sparrow and Norrington. James doesn't think he'll ever get used to the full heat of the Caribbean summer. Jack isn't helping.

Also I got a surprise kiss from [info]porridgebird! N'awwwwwww - consider me feeling both surprised and loved :)

Random question is random
Since I find myself missing [info]remixthedrabble a ridiculous amount, does anyone know of any remix challenges that are a) current and b) based on lj? My google-fu has let me down and I am suitably ashamed

Prompts open for claiming at [info]smallfandomfest.
Since recently throwing a bit of a fanfic wobbly I've rather lost track of the challenges and fests on my flist. So, I've only just discovered that Fest09 is now open at [info]smallfandomfest. As ever there's a shedload of prompts across a shedload of fandoms including (rather excitingly) some Neverwhere and Ultraviolet prompts (not even submitted by me, but by a real person! Huzzah!). Check them out here. Claiming open until July 31, when the Fest officially closes.

In keeping with my blatant disregard to the laws of space and time, my day 7 will actually be happening in two days time. More excitingly (not to mention a little unbelievably) I'm thus far spoiler free.

Piratey goodness
Sooooo, I've seen this meme pop up on my flist a few times and love a bandwagon, especially a pirate one feel it's about time I started getting into the swing of Pirates 4, so here are my answers.

I am, as ever, late to the party (and will doubtless be late to the film too, I'm hoping to go on Sunday so will be sitting with my fingers in my ears lah lah lahing to myself to avoid spoilers this week), so here are days one and two in a oner.

A blast from the past
I've just spent the day helping a friend make wedding decorations. I'm feeling warm and fuzzy and arts and crafty. Actually it was a nice way to spend my Saturday, I ended up having a bit of a stressful week (deadlines - pffft) so came home last night, slumped on the sofa, fired up the magic 'things I've recorded' box and refused to move. One of the gems I recorded was a real blast from my past, Red Shoe Diaries - a histrionic overwrought genius film that spawned a dodgy soft-core porn TV series. Back in the day a friend and I had a bit of a thing for David Duchovny and genuinely thought this film was the height of brilliance. Cheesy? Yes. Dated? Yes. But I still loved the guilty pleasure stroll down memory lane.

Much more recently Doctor Who Vs Pirates (or if you want to be pedantic 'The Curse of the Black Spot') was disappointing, although cut for guest star spoiler that probably really isn't if you saw the trailer )

Note to self
Due to both insomnia and realising I'd actually managed to fill up the memory of my Sky+TiVo thing, I've spent far too many hours watching a rather eclectic mix of films. Just finished Legion, a fairly rubbishy and shouty Paul Bettany/Dennis Quaid vehicle. If I was making an Apocalyptic End of Days epic, I'd have Famine trading in his black horse and being an ice-cream seller in a quaint little ice-cream van with a creepy tinkling tune...

Smelly unmentionables - coming atcha (if you have access to the BBC)
I've waxed lyrical about the rather wonderful Dan Snow before. After fiddling around on various boats and battlefields, he's now fronting a new three part series on the mucky history of, well, muck in Filthy Cities. I was aiming to watch this last night (the health and hygiene of medieval London), but was actually feeling quite queasy after an unfortunate piece of fish for dinner (possibly TMI, sorry) so only lasted 5 minutes before having to give up and record it. Needless to say it gets a little full-on - sewage, butchering animals, unmentionable smelly things and probably much, much more. As I say, I lasted approximately 5 minutes. Still, I hear it was interesting and I might even be able to face watching it in the next few days!

If you are based in the UK, and want a fully (ahem) immersive experience, you can get a special scratch and sniff card to play along at home with. Nice.

Dan Snow blog on series here. Bed bugs and lice - double nice.

Yeeeeahhh - that blur of motion? A fest deadline disappearing...
So, I got terribly excited and signed up for [info]dark_fest. Then resolutely failed to actually do anything. It's official, I've lost my mojo :(

On the plus side, as this is the second fest in quick succession I've bowed out of, I now know not to sign up for any more for a wee while. On the plus plus side, a shedload of people managed to actually fill their prompts, so go check them out. Posting is staggered from yesterday until the comm runs out of stories. As mentioned before do check out the warnings - it's not called 'dark' for nothing. Nasties and horror and ewwww HERE.
